Hey all, I have a rusty Model G that I am restoring and I am struggling to get the hub caps off the front wheels. Any tips? Thanks in advance! |

Thanks for those! Both just state "remove the hub cap" - so helpful! Obviously if rust wasn't involved this task would be a non-event. The caps have a little lip on the top edge...thinking I may be able to fashion a puller to get them off... |

Steve, often you can just wrap them with a shop rag and grab them with a pair of adjustable channel locks and wiggle them loose, I have an old pair of blacksmiths end nippers much like these that I use

Using a hammer you can "tap" the cap between the ridge and the end toward the center of the cap moving around the cap- not all tapping at one location. tapping...not beating as this is a press fit

Dad taught us to use a small cold chisel between the lip and the hub. Have to be careful to not punch a hole in the cap. 12 oz ball peen hammer and light tapping is all it takes. ------------- Looking at the past to see the future. '53 WD, '53 WD45, WD snap coupler field cultivator, #53 plow,'53 HD5B dozer Duct tape.... Can't fix stupidity. But will muffle the sound of it! |
