Has everybody's store been revamped. The one I support seems to be done. They added on to the back and moved the order desk clear to the back of the store. I never got back to the order desk tonight. Its as far away from the check out counter as you can get. It looks quite a bit larger now. Looks like I could walk several miles in the "isles". I like to go there early in the mornings, far less people there, but not so easy to find a forklift operator, they seem to be unloading semis or loading their commercial customers. Lots more tools, lots of everyday household stuff too. Not sure I like that part of it. It must be working, a good pal of mine, in charge if all maintaince, there tells me it is the #2 store in sales volume. Old gal and I both like spending time there.

Just heard something about Menards OSB sheathing, It is 1/8th inch smaller than the full 4X8 sheats... and claim its the norm while osb from any other lumber yard sells the full 4x8 sheets...
Menards personnel were busy saying just buy a strip and put in the gap when your using it like on the walls.... SHEESHWacko

the store we go to the order desk is off to the side of the check outs. they have their own corner. the big stores do what Tom is talking about so they hope to have their customers do impulse buying, everyone has to pass by the stuff and Menards hopes they will grab something extra on their way past.

I wouldn't think 1/8th inch would make any difference as there should be a slight gap between the sheets to allow expansion.  1/8 inch thinner sheet would be a big deal on a half inch sheet.

Osb sheeting is suppose to be about 1/8" smaller for spacing.  On most sheets it will say "sized for spacing", thus allowing for expansion and contraction with weather conditions. When nailing it on, you will leave a slight gap, then nail.

The Menards in Mason City moved the contractors desk to the back of the store plus a lot of rearranging recently. Ya would have thought they would print out some maps to show were the new locations of things are.

They also have the checkout conveyors that you unload your stuff on and cashier scans it. Definitely not a fan of this new system and will probably do more business at Mills Fleet farm which is across the highway from Menards because of this.

our menards the cashiers are the only ones allowed to unload the carts, scan, then send them down a conveyer to sack up.

Maybe I had it flip flopped with the conveyors, been a few weeks since I was there and only have used it once.

Anyone ever got eleven percent off on everything at Menard's like they advertise?
Need to find the right form to fill out and mail then get store credit, Last time I did that I put it off for a couple weeks and when I tried to do it my receipt had expired.

I used the 11% rebate to round out my gearwrench set. Bought the 13/16" through 1 1/4", and the rebate covered the cost of the biggest wrench. Other than that, I usually shop at Fleet Farm, since it started right here in town.

The Mennard's that I frequent is brand new, over in Dickinson. There, customer parks the cart full of stuff at the checkout counter, cashier in-loads it, scans it, and sends it down a conveyor for the customer to bag it up. I have no issue with that system. As far as the OSB goes, I always thought that 1/8 inch smaller was the norm. Darrel

Our Manards you unload cart clerk runs it threw register and you bag, and the 11% discount is only good to be mailed in and then you have to go back there to spend the coupon. I like Lowe's where I get my 10% military discount taken off the purchase.

Menard's 11 % off rebates don't age out. I have used them when they are over a year old. This was brought up a while back. I have 2 friends working at 2 different stores. I ask both of them if Menard's raises prices and then subtracts the 11%. Both said this did not happen.

closest Menards to us is about an hour away.. Daughter lives 10 minutes from them.. She bought a house and we remodeled the kitchen, wood floor , some electrical, bath, few cabinets..... spent about $5000. there in one year... Got over $500. back on the 11%... they have it about 1 week out of the month, just pick the right week. You get a check in the mail to use the next time you visit. Works great if your going every couple weeks.

About a year ago they built onto the back end of the store.. All orders or purchases from the YARD  ( plywood, sheets , metal roofing, etc) gets a ticket at the back of the store... then go up front to pay.. That way if your just shopping for small stuff, your upfront away from the larger Yard ordering.... works good.

We have a Lowes and Home Depot in the area also, but I prefer the selection and better prices on most things at Menards.... I did get a better deal on appliances ( refrig, stove, dryer) at Lowes and HD... but you have to order and deliver.

I got 11% on my building when I ordered it. the $1100 bought the ceiling steel and wiring. But it took a while to get the rebate back. Got another 120 dollars back from that trip. As long as the purchase was made before the deadline you have a year to get the rebate to them. After that they won't pay. You can fill out the rebate form online and print it. The rebate number is on the receipt.

My wife was creeping on face book last night. (I don't ever go on there). She said that the oldest son posted on there, the 3 loves of his life; His wife, his son, and Menard's. I guess it's safe to say that he likes Menard's. Guess his mother and I are a little farther down the list. At least his wife and kid were higher on the list than Menard's. Darrel

Home Depot will give the same 11% rebate if you ask they just don't advertise it.

At one time Kwik Trip convience stores had a 'tie-in' with Menards, a percentage of your gas purchases could earn a 'rebate' that you could use at Menards. That was in Wisconsin, not sure of other states.

I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

Well, I never bothered to use particle board/ chipboard/ strandboard/ OSB sheathing because of a simple fact of when that material gets wet for any amount of time, it will expand... But I did not realise that this stuff would expand and shrink 1/8th inch... Just got off the phone with the fellow that had the issues with Menards and he said he spent 10 minutes at a local lumber yard and they had the full 4x8 sheets in stock... and was delivered at no extra cost... the sheets were of OSB were almost identical except for the 1/8th inch diamension... madein the same mill and had the same type of markings and same green edge  and his new sheeting was dated just 1 month newer.
And the beauty of it all, it was all full 4x8 and fit up nice and tight and the only cuts he made were for the electrical outlets. He put up 18 sheets the first night and dealt with NO GAPS. When he is done, he will paint these walls like he did when putting OSB on his first garage wall some 20 years ago... and NEVER had any problems with it.
I think menards lost a customer who would spend several thousands of dollars with them... and will shop the local yard from now on.

when the big box stores open, (menards, home depot, lowes, and others) they bring in people from other stores that have been with them a long time to help set them up. and when customers come in needing anything, those people can show them where it's at and explain anything that needs it. then....they leave. leaving us with employees that have no clue about anything , not alone where it can be found or how it works! I need 20 pairs of hands to count with fingers of how many times I get a shrugged shoulder from employees at any of them stores. now it's a little easier, I can take their little electric carts and go up and down the aisles looking for what I need, then make a mental pic of future purchases on where to find it. sure beats walking the whole store looking.

My Menards only has 1 electric cart and it is never available. I avoid going there in the winter. I have my own electric unit I can use in the summer. It's one that goes on a carrier on the back of the van. I can drive up on it.

I have filled out those forms at customer counter a few times already. I figure they just need some older person to drop in the middle of the store first.
