Guys I'm looking for a good small baler for about 2000 bales per year. I like being different and don't want a John Deere or New Holland. How are the International 430-435, Case 230, Ford 532, or the Allis Chalmers. Which would you pick and why. Also if someone has experience with any one of these models please share.

Being different is going to give you a headache when it comes to finding replacement parts. You've eliminated the two best balers they made.

I know, I just enjoy using something different, for the price I figure to pick up a parts baler as well.

Why not a New Holland? We have over 700,000 bales through a 320. Been a very good baler.
If you have to have something different find a allis, i know the twister parts are same as New Holland at least that is for a 303 that we still have for a back up.

I vote NH as well. I have a 273 and all I've had to do with it is grease for the 2 years I've owned it. I went with NH over JD because I believe if you plug the auger on the JD you're going to be down a WHILE

My brother still has our old new holland dad bought it back in the seventys well used but it still works good. It's easy to get parts for and requires very little maintance. Just clean and grease it cover the notters and park it. Next year it always works. Most of his hay is 6x5's but does a fear squares for bedding in the shed.He does have a allis but hardly ever uses it.

We have a Ford 532. Pretty slow baler and sure shakes compared to the larger new holland we used farming. We only do 100 ish bales and it works good for the $300 bucks it cost us. Parts are not so easy to get or cheap. I would stay away unless you get one cheap like we did. Seems almond st identical to the ac square baler in design.

I guess I wouldn't shame you for buying an allis. Closest thing to a new Holland as there is. Buddy of mine has made 5 to 6 hundred little squares a year with one for 20+ years now. Darrel

2000 bales a year I would want a machine that is dependable and I don't hafta work on,, ya might look at the in-line Hesston for something different, I have a 4570 and like the straight through design,,easy to get though gates, follows right behind the tractor,, I had a 435 IH (might have been a 445, I don't remember for sure) that I bought from my uncle,, he had wore it out,, but I got a lot of bales out of that machine, wore it out some more, wire tie, and made good bales.,,just that IH wire knot is really different,,

I have an IH 425 made in England.Got it for free with no more than 500 bales made and always stored inside.Gave up using the roto-baler. Uses the same knotter as some NH balers.I use an NH manual to do whatever needs to be adjusted.Only had to work on it once and have pounded out 3500 since then with almost all tied right. I would buy an NH if I needed to replace this one.

If you are wanting the best, get a Heston/MF inline.
I got a Heston inline last year, to replace a NH. Went up two gears on the tractor and the worst bale out of the Heston, looks as good as the best bales I have seen from a NH.
I talk to a number of hay farmers (75,000+ bales per year) last year when I was looking for a baler and they all use MF inline balers. If they do have a NH, it just for a spare or when they need another baler in the field. Some have 2-3 inlines.

Capacity isn't much of an issue. I can always get someone to drive but I'm riding the wagon. I had a John Deere 336 until about 2012 when I sold it thinking I didn't need to square anymore. It was a great baler wish I hadn't of sold it. Anyway since I sold it people ask me about hay, (couldn't give it away when I had it!) So I thought I would pick up a cheap baler and fill my loft which holds 2000 bales and then I'd have hay to sell when needed. I've come across some decent IH 430's and one 435 and those are the ones I'm most interested in hearing about. Guys are always saying they won't tie but a neighbor gets by great with one he can't have the only good one, can he???

When it comes to knotters, if they're adjusted right with the right parts then they should tie. The trouble you run into with a lot of balers other then NH and JD is having/finding the right parts. The inline balers are nice if you can justify one. I can't so I'll keep running my 273 until I can justify or it gives up the ghost. I've been told to stay away from the NH 310 as they'll come apart after so long or something like that. They had a problem handling the capacity. They fixed that with the 311

We are in wire tie country here and the IH wire ties were great . John Deere and Allis would be my next choice
