Subject: C159 filter confusion?

I have been following the C159 filter deal. My wife picked up 3 for me and I noticed they are hydraulic not engine oil filters. I checked some I bought last year and they are the same deal. I have seen other posts that have hydraulic filters also. What i have found out is the hydraulic filters have a finer medium and will plug up if used for the engine. Could someone please give their opinions on using them?

I checked with Fram and Mark said first he would not use one that said hydraulic filter on the box but after some further research he could only find one C159 filter in their product list. A oil by pass filter. So he said I should be O.K.

C159 is a bypass engine oil filter........ no matter what someone puts on the box. I would agree internally is might resemble a hydrauilic filter more than a paper engine oil filter.. That might be their confusion in naming it....... but you cant have two filters with the same part number.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

I phoned Fram customer service about this issue. The gentleman who answered told me that they are basically the same thing. Bob@allisdowneast

I used to think I was indecisive, but now I'm not sure.

The youngsters in charge at Fram don't have a clue about these filters, so they put a pic of a hyd one on the box.  They've never seen an oil filter with a screw in end on it.
We had this discussion on here a while back Mike, so YES, you're good to go.  Never mind the picture.

As a comparison a Fram PH8A is the engine oil filter on my D-15 Ser II

- and is the Hydraulic oil filter on my D-12 Ser. III.

So same filter - engine oil or hydraulic oil
