It is the perfect head.  I have one on my R52 which is the first year they were made, so I have a different cab than an R50 only.  It is the best head for the combine in my opinion, you can keep the machine full without going fast and I found I get a lot cleaner sample that way from mine.

A twelve row would be fine on an R-50 if you could pick it up. The harvester is made for so much thru-put per hr. With 12 rows, you'd go half the speed of a 6 row. Your throat lift cylinder size may play a part in picking up an 8 row. I thought there was a standard diameter cylinder and an optional larger diameter on an R-50.....
