Trying to time a CAV injection pump on a 5050.(not trying to time the gears) I have a service manual and it shows to line up the letter 'A' with the edge of the snap ring when looking through to inspection cover on the pump.
However the big snap ring appears to be installed in a rotated position so I can't line anything up. The pump has a 'sold and serviced' tag on it so it must have be repaired or replaced at one time. I don't know the history on that.
My question is, can I rotate the flywheel by hand until the injection timing mark lines up with the pointer and see when the injector sprays fuel? Or do you need more RPM to make that work.
I suspect the pump may have issues, but would like to have it timed correctly first. It does run, but seems to be putting out to much fuel.

Thanks,
Steve

Those pumps normally just get timed to the engine by the mark on the flange. Beyond that, you're usually just grasping at straws, and like you suspect, something else is wrong.
