generator bad. switching to alternator. and making brackets to mount powersteering. whats the best way to make tach work.

I guess I'm too stupid to figure out your problem.  The tachometer is driven from the other side of the engine by the governor on a gasser.

it has a combine 6 cylinder gas engine in it. it originally had a diesel. so it has the diesel generator and power steering on it. sorry for the confusion

Pretty sure you need a D19 distributor if you want the tach to work.

Just get the generator rebuilt.  It lasted this long.
