Hey all I got a problem with my temp guage or sending unit or something else. My sending unit is a year old and I bought my guage at the same time.when the tractor is cold that gauge moves up and pegs hot. I disconnect it from the temp gauge amd it goes cold. What could be the problem.

sounds like the sending wire is rubbing on something and grounding it. that is how you can test a gauge to see if it works, ground the wire. if it pegs the gauge is good so your sender would be the problem. in your case the wire is grounded. and ususally with a bad sender the gauge wont move at all

I tried a new wire from semding unit to gauge still pegs hot

If the dash gauge goes down to cold or below when you unhook the wire at the temp sender it sounds like the sending unit is bad. Leon

Is the sending unit matched to the gauge? Put an ohmmeter on the sending unit and watch the resistance. Let me know what it reads as the tractor warms up.

Go to local auto supply and buy a manual gauge. Then you will know what the temp. is. MACK

Hookedtemp gauge back up with tractor cold. Gauge readeds cold as the tractor warms up the gauge moves then will go red

Is the temperature gauge grounded? My 220 did that when I put a new gauge in it. The agco dealer told me to ground the gauge. It worked.

I pulled sending unit out and boiled a pot of water to 180 and it crawled all the way to the red. Tried it on a different gauge and it did the same thing

MACK where would I put the prob at. I have a manual gauge and can't find a coolant spot to put it

It really sounds like you have the wrong sending unit for the gauges if it did it to two gauges.
Hate to say this but you should do what Doug told you to do....

Do that and report back. OKay?
Or go back and get another sending unit, and hope it's the right sender... not just a duplicate to what you have... but the correct one.
Need to find the ohms the gauge works in and a sender that works in that range.
