I was having problems getting the trans into low, only after multiple shifts between hi and lo.

So I put on a new SMALL shifter cable today, and it still won't go into low.  The lever goes into position, but the trans does not.  After I put the new cable on, the lever would not go into the high position until I lengthened the LARGE shifter cable by one turn.

Is there a procedure somewhere for this?

thanks,
Roscoe

It sometimes will go in low, sometimes won't.  I am clueless what to do next, if anyone has done this before?

Thanks,
Roscoe.

Sounds like something is moving maybe where the cable is attached to?Just a guess, I have no experience with these but want to learn , please post what the fix was when you get it

My 7040 ps is the same way,put new cables on and didn't help. I noticed the park lock doesn't come out completely on its own, cable sticks a little so maybe that has something to do with it. Thats the only cable I didn't replace yet.

Take the side cover off the console, down at floor there is a hole in linkage where you can hook a spring. AGCO 70514773 bailer spring is just right to move linkage for better shifting.    MACK

Thanks MACK, I was hoping you would see this and reply.

I put it all back together since I had to start mowing yesterday.  I will take the cover back off after church and if I can't figure out what you  mean, I will post back.

One good thing since I had it all apart, I did weld the brace to the PTO cable bracket, as Doc said, to stiffen it up and allow me to take it out of gear.  That worked like a charm.  I also took the slop out of the transmission foot clutch cable by replacing the worn, sloppy ball end with a good one.  Now my trans brake works again.

It sure is rough not having Lo range though.  1 Hi-Hi is too slow and 2 Hi-Lo is too fast for mowing rough ground.  Can't wait to get my Lo range back again.

Thanks again.
Roscoe.

Couldn't wait, so I did it this morning.  Unbelievable.  Works first time, every time.

I just used a heavy spring in the spare parts bin.   Photos below:

Thanks, thanks!
