I have a 302 baler that tied fine for years, now it mis-ties on both sides about every 3rd bale. Just had the dealer baler expert out for 5 hours, it now ties when turned over by hand, ties at an idle, ties at 1500 engine rpm, but starts to miss tie at 1900 rpm. Engine speed at 540 PTO is 2160 and it will mis-tie every other or more bales at this speed. Anyone have any ideas? The mis-tied knots have a string between the 2 end tails of the knot and this is the string that is already attached to the bale, when you pull on it like picking up the bale, the string slides out of the knot.

Lots of adjustments on a baler but here are some possibilities: tension on twine ok? Bale of twine busted up? Cutter knife sharp? Needles go up thru the knotter right dimensions? Needle brake adjusted correct? Wear groove from twine in needles? Best to get a book on it and set it up step by step......
if you are tie-ing a knot without any hay in it, you need to pull on the string that is in the chamber while the knoters cycle. But be careful, there are danger areas in the chamber.

Are the billhooks worn? Otherwise check the alignment and spacings everywhere they specify in the owners manual. Check for play wherever there is a bearing surface.

Take the string tensioner apart and look for deep groves where the strings run. MACK
