Complete motor overhaul, it will start and idle but if I throttle up just a bit, the rpm's go crazy high. Carb has been rebuilt and may not be adjusted right, that may be an issue. I've had the gov. front cover off and spring looks ok. I've had the dist/gov ass. off and see no problems. I've adjusted linkage but does not help. What am I missing or doing wrong?
Any suggestions are appreciated.

I doubt that I have the solution but we had the same problem with
one. It turned out the rod that went across the front of the
engine was bent. When you throttled up, it would do just as
yours...go from idle to full rpms. Once we straightened the
cross rod, it worked as it should. How did it get bent?
I have no idea.

When I rebuilt my carb, I put the butterfly in backwards, made it stick in the carb body and surge. Never had extra high RPMs though.
The rod it suppoed to be bent a perfect amount like Den says. Somehting like wide open on the throttle lever, pull the carb rod to open the butterfly all the way should just hook with like an 1/8" extra. The service manual spells it out.
