Hi. I was driving my 45 diesel last night an it just smoothly stopped running. I thought to myself this cant be good an pulled on starter an there is no smoke coming from pipe while it cranks over. There is 3" of fuel in tank so i dont think thats the problem. Any thoughts or ideas? Im thinking its time for a pump rebuild. Thanks for any ideas where to start.

I would change fuel filters first. We had the same problem and all that it was is the bio growth in the fuel plugged the filters. We now put in fuel conditioner to stop the bio growth.

Also clean the sediment bowl and open the valve while doing that to make sure the fuel is running out of the tank. 190 was running poor this spring and had to do that.

there could be a stand pipe in the tank, so with 3 inches of fuel may be low enough. Try the simple things first, ADD FUEL. Then check filters. A WD45D is not a tractor you can just go buy a new pump for. Better hope it didn't have a catastrophic pump failure. Good pump parts are very hard to find, and people are pricing them accordingly, some almost exorbitantly priced!

I drained the bowl an filters. Got some odd slimy stuff out of them. Then I cracked the fittings to get fuel back up to them while cranking tractor over an it fired up an is running great so maybe i did run it out of fuel while i was on side hill or maybe it got an air pocket while sitting over winter. It was the first trip out of shed for the year. Kinda odd. Thanks for the help an ideas.

Might want to get the crud cleaned out of the tank as well!

I would think the engine would flutter or race running out of fuel..did you check the linkage from the injection pump? As a kid we always had problems with that damn link wearing and the ball joint beaking out.

Yep Eldon i was thinking / hoping the same thing when i got off of tractor right after it died but the small rod was still on. I think your talking about the rod that is 5/16" thick by 4" long an has a small ball joint on pumps end. I had tractor rolling down small hill back into yard when it shut off so smooth just like you had shut off fuel to pump.
