We just bought a replacement head for our 7010 and it has no thermostat hole/port. ( yes should of caught that!) It also had 2 endcaps where as the original only had one? Main used parts guy at dealer is gone for a week so no one knows there. Would it have to do with the intercooler on a 7020 say? Gleaner M? Stationary unit? Thanks

Been a long time since I've seen a 1972 model "L" combine, but they had a funky cooling system on them compared to any tractor. I still can't imagine the cylinder head casting was that different. 7000-7010-7020 all the same cylinder head.

I put an intercooler on my 190xt with no issues other than it runs a little warmer now, you'll be fine doing it on a 7010.

You have a cylinder from a combine engine MARK ll engine used in some M2s. It had a manifold across front of head where the thermostat went. Take it back and get the right head or buy a 190xt head and change injector tips and nuts. MACK

I would get the non copper tube head... as Mack suggested. And the intercooler will add about 10 degrees to the coolant as an average... In my opinion the intercooler on the 301 is not as effective as the 426. Unless you are going to go up -120- in hp - I would not invest the time and money.

I went the 190/200 style head route on my late 7000 with a MKII 2900, and it may have been one of the best things I did for the tractor. I had the copper sleeve head off a couple of times for repair and finally a crack between the sleeve and an exhaust valve was the nail in the coffin. I think the dual thermostat housing will bolt up fine to the head (does it have the 2 bolt flange that bolts to the left side of the head as well?). If so, you are probably money ahead, as the older style heads are generally less expensive, you don't have to have special tools to replace the sealing tubes, and they have a little more meat to them, and they should bolt right up!

Thanks for the info. So just to be clear... the only thing we'd have to change to go to a non-injector sleeve head is the injector tips and nuts?
