Went to look at an 8050 today. Tach does not work at idle. Throttle to wide open and it starts working and seems "normal" as long as throttle is wide open. Back off the throttle more than 100 or 200 rpms and it quits reading again. Fixable? Or have to replace?

The sensor pickup needs to be adjusted. It's very easy to adjust. Just unplug it and screw it in until it touches the flywheel then back it off one turn and plug it back in.

Sounds easy enough - point me to the general location of the sensor? Thanks.

Ok I have the same problem with my 8030 and I tried to adjust it as said and it still has the same problem, doing the same thing. Like it tries at idle but not enough you have to rev it up to 900 rams to get a response. Any pointers?

Trouble with an 8000 series tach, join the club. Oh the joys of an old tractor.

Do you have another used tach to swap out and compare/trobleshoot?

Nope it's my first 8000 series tractor so this is new territory for me.

The next step is to check the ohms of the pickup. I don't know what the ohms should be. Be best to compare to a new one if you can. Pickups can and do go bad.
