I'm replacing the manifold gaskit today, my question is do I use any type of sealer between the head & the gaskit. I don't see how it can seal with a thin piece of metal against the head. Seems strange because the gaskit is between the thin metal & the manifold. thanks in advance, keith So. Va.

i used walker exhaust sealer part #35959 on mine.available at most any parts store.put it on the manifold surface after prepping surfaces.helps keep gaskets in place when putting back together and fills any pits or voids.used it for years on many different gasket less manifolds, cars, trucks, etc.

The metal goes aganist the head with no sealer. Clean the head and manifold real good. Check the manifold for pitting and use a straihjt edge to make sure it is straight where it fits aganist the head. If it isn,t have somebody plane it down.

NEVER put anything on it except a piece of string to hold it in place till you got a bolt started. Then they started using studs, so the string went out the door too. Nope, don't need nothin. Just make sure you use a torque wrench and then re-do it after it's run a little and hot! Then once more the next day again.
