Got another question to take up more of your time here guys. The spring to the right and below the gas tank on my WD 45 isn't right. Or at least it doesn't look correct to me. I'm gonna replace it soon. Does anybody have a part number to look up to order one? Or at least what do you call the darn thing?
Thanks again for all the help,
Brad

Thanks for the info guys. Shameless, it works, but I'm not convinced it's working right. My throttle won't stay put, it constantly slips up on the quadrant. I've got to replace the quadrant and probably the lower steering support bracket too. When I do that I'll replace the tension spring on the quadrant as well.
Thanks again,
Brad

That balance spring has to be correct to ever have the throttle stay in one place. That one is a poor substitute for the real thing.

If replacing that spring is gonna help solve the throttle issue then I'll get it ordered. Cause it's irritating having to adjust it all the time. And I'm not gonna just tie it down with a wire like the last guy. Not if I can actually fix it. I don't like doing things that way. I'm not saying I haven't done things like that. I just don't like to.

Bought a couple at Hutch, about $13.00 so they are available new.  That should fix your trouble.

The design requires that balance spring to be of a certain strength AND the one that puts pressure on the friction block has to be up to strength as well. It is a combination of the two, so start with the one under the tank and go from there.

The quadrant springs are often overlooked. They also have a tendacy to not slip on the washers and torque against the travel.Dad used to give em a little drop of oil from time to time to keep em working right.

Found what I'm pretty sure is the broken original spring the other day. It was a heavier duty spring than I expected. Don't know why I expected something different, I don't really know about springs. But I can see why it needs to be that way to do it's job. It amazes me sometimes what they thought up back then.
