| One of the hydraulic cylinders on my WD leaks pretty bad. It appears as though it's leaking around the threads on the end nut and not from the seals. I removed the end nut and there seems to be a ding in the tread but not across all of them. The ram shaft looks very good with no nicks, scratches, or pitting so I'm thinking of just replacing the packing and see if that does it. The kit from the Agco dealer is about $20 which I assume is just the chevron seals. Is there anything else I need? It appears as though I have to unscrew the end section of the housing to remove the shaft. Correct? Any rebuilding suggestions and a schematic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

| Don't unscrew the cylinder! Might just need to tighten nut on end of cylinder. If you replace packing, with arms up, remove nut and push down on arms. In a lot of cases, that will push the packing out. May need to do some diving with screw driver. MACK |

| Put packing in years ago and don't remember a thing about it! LOL! Always tighten the nut first.When the nut is bottomed out then you repack |

One thing I have noticed, I believe advice is being given on two different cylinders. I think some are referring to the rear, and some are referring to the front lift. If it is the front lift you are referring to, all I did was loosen the four square head bolts that holds the compression cap, slid the cap up, pried the old chevron packing out, worked new chevron into place (cut the ends on a angle for a good lap seal) and replaced the compression cap, walking it down evenly. I've had the rear ones apart, but like SteveM, memory is failing me on that one

| Thanks but the cylinder I'm working on is the rear one that moves the Snap Coupler lift arm. Guess I should have been clearer. |

| I tried tightening the end nut. That's when I noticed that the leak didn't appear to be around the shaft but rather from the end nut screws into the cylinder housing. |
