The clutch pedal on our 7040 PD will not come back up, you can't pull it back up. It also acts like it's slipping when in a higher gear, will catch and pull good up to 5th gear, and just slip in all high range gears, the high PD button also has to be held down to engage. Hydraulics, pto, and steering all work. The brakes work but pedals are soft. It is full of fluid and filters have been changed in the summer. Wandering if it's the pump or torque limiter.

The clutch pedal has to come all the way up, or nothing else will work correctly. Probably the clutch cable or return spring on the pedal, but also could be the bushings on the spool fork mechanism. Remove the maroon side cover just inside the cab door and ahead of the clutch pedal, directly down from the orange instrument hood panel. Six bolts to remove after rolling back the floor mat to access the bolts.

Took off panel cable is good, we had replaced it before. Springs appear to be ok. The pedal is still half way down the plunger on the valve is all the way in when the pedal is up. The tractor still seems to be slipping and has to be half throttle before it will catch and go, will barely move in gear at idle.

Is the plunger all the way in with engine running or shut off?
If cable is ok, and clutch pedal won't come all the way up, you have wrong cable or pedal is binding up. Unhook cable at pedal and see if pedal comes all the way up.    MACK

This is exactly how my 7045 behaved a few years ago.   I did not do the repairs, had it done by a mechanic. The cable was replaced, the control valve was either replaced or rebuilt (?), and the torque limiter was rebuilt.

I hadn't had the tractor very long when it did this. Learning what I've learned since then, I highly doubt ALL of those things were wrong at once....but it is fixed and has worked great since then, and I know all that stuff is good now...

Will be curious what you find to be the trouble.

Mine, the clutch came back up....but you had to watch, not always all the way!
