I have an A/C model #5015 Tractor with a front end loader mounted on it. One of the hydraulic lift cylinders is leaking from pitting. the unit has been painted black, so I cannot tell who made the loader or the model number of it. Can anyone help me with the manufacturer of the loader attachment or steer me to a new cylinder. The cylinder I need is 18 3/4" in length and has an OD of 2". The inner rod is 1" in diameter.

John, Several years ago I replaced the bucket cylinders on my Ford Front end loader. Got cylinders from Northern. I only need one, but they were so cheap, I just replaced both of them with Prince cylinders. Later had to replace both rods. Bent both of them. Replacement rods were available from Surplus Supply. Another cheap fix. Both cylinders were about $275.
Ford dealer quoted $475 just for a replacement rod. Then he said "Oh they no longer available".
Maybe this info will help.

I have checked Northern and a bunch of others, but no luck. It seems the stroke is what is screwing me up. 20" totally extended. The length of the outer cylinder is 18 3/4".

What is the measurement center to center of the pins totally retracted and totally extended?

Take the cylinder to your local machine shop farm repair place and have them quote what it would cost to cut you a new rod. Chrome stock is readily available in many sizes.

Look up hyd cylinder repair in phome book in your area. As you do not list your location it's hard to give you a place that does it.

I had new metric shafts made for angle cylinders on my FD5 and have had new shaft and piston made for my 715B TLB at hyd shop here in MN. They cut end off old rod and rewelded to new shaft, machined end for piston and sold rebuild kit for seals , all cheaper than mfg. replacement parts.

I had one of the cylinders leaking on my D grader and took it to a hydraulic repair shop. I though that it was just the seal but they said the shaft was pitted. They just re-chromed and machined it and put new seals in it.

I had a bucket cylinder on my AC L-99 loader that had nicks an pits and was leaking. Took it to a hydraulic repair shop (C&C Hydraulics in Connecticut) and they filled the nicks/pits and turned the shaft and replaced the packings - cost about $200. That was several years ago and I've had no problems so far. It's not the sort of thing that you would do on a piece of construction equipment that is doing heavy work every day, but sufficed for my occassional light use.

Thanks guys. It looks like I will have to take it to a hydraulic repair shop and let them make me a new inner shaft, unless someone can come up with the maker of the loader attachment. Someone painted this loader all black and I can't find any ID on it. It was originally yellow, I assume factory color.
