Never heard of a "B Deluxe".
As to the first with a starter, it was an option for a long time, so finding the first, without documentation, is almost impossible.

there was no deluxe.  Built from 1937 to 1958. Several changes over the years, but no designation other than "MODEL B".

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

With my father I was pleased to sell the B for the life of the unit.  That said I cannot recall a B deluxe.  You could get a B with an adjustable front, steel wheels, during the war non-electric, Asparagus B, Potato B.  That is all I can remember.  I know others can chime in with other options.
The B is a very dependable and easy to work on.
Look forward to seeing pictures and progress reports.
Take good care of my favorite.
Good Luck!

The B came out with a starter in mid 1940, after serial # 43220.
Terry Dean, in his "Illustrated Buying Guide", "Allis Chalmers Tractors and Crawlers" calls the first ones with electric starter a "deluxe" model. Bob

Steve(I'll) says there was no such thing. What would be the difference with a deluxe?

This is a old B&W photo of my cousins Grandpas B. I believe it is a late 40 or a 41. My cousin restored this same tractor in 1985. He also has the original paperwork from when it was bought new by his Grandpa.
It was listed on the invoice as a DELUX MODEL B.
Taking a closer look it had electrics, Adjustable front axle and the 5 stud splined adapter hubs and reversible semi dished rear wheel centers.
I think my cousin is squalling because his Grandpa got his rims on backwards.
I believe it has hand brakes by looking at the low seat frame and the low tool bar brackets. The brake change from hand to footbrakes came with B52718 in 41.

I am inclined to believe the term Delux Model B was used to give the customer all the adjustable front and rear tread width options available above what was a fixed tread standard at the time

Ken I love those old photos you got. Looks like your family started you out working right from day one. Very interesting story on the deluxe as well.

As stated earlier, electric start became available at serial# 43220 (mid 1940). Looking at my "A New Adventure in Farming" brochure printed in Jan 1941 it highlights the many virtues of the model B and C tractors.
It states the following:
"The Standard Model "B" tractor will handle all of the jobs on the average farm economically and efficiently. There are some conditions, however, where its efficiency is improved by the use of special equipment, and to meet these conditions the following special models have been made available.

For those desiring more complete equipment, there is the Model "B" Special. It is equipped with electric lights, self-starter, radiator shutter, muffler and oversized 9-24 tires."

The following paragraphs of the brochure go on to discuss other options available at additional cost.
1. Model B with special wide adjustable wheel treads, front and back.
2. Model B Asparagus Special
3. Model B Potato Special

Using another source of information, page 36 from A-C Tractor Ads 1922-1956 by Tim Putt, it shows the price of 3 models.
B - $518 on rubber
B - $570 with starter, lights, muffler
C - $595 air tires, lights, starter, muffler
WC - $960 lights, starter and air tires

So it appears that in mid 1940 thru some/all of 1941, Allis-Chalmers was selling the Model B as bare bones model and also a "Special/Deluxe" version. I would guess many farmers would opt for the version with electric start, so it might be harder to find a 1941 model without all of the enhancements.
