After doing a few tractors, what is your best technique for doing the bottom of the tractor? I have a top fed gravity HVLP gun and it is hard to manage laying on my back. Use a smaller gun? ------------- Charlie '48 B, '51 CA, '56 WD45 '61 D17, '63 D12, '65 D10 , '68 One-Ninety XTD |

I use the same setup and manage to get mine covered well enough. The trick is to paint underneath when the cup is full and when it becomes hard to keep paint going to the tip you finish out the cup painting on the sides. If you actually want it too look as nice up side down and as it does right side up I suggest turning it upside down to paint the bottom of it  |

Ok...my guilty moment...when I painted my 8N, I had the same problem, so I figured "No one looks underneath anyway", so I just brushed the paint on underneath.

| Chain Hoist up the front as high as you dare and get after the bottom of it with the gun you have. Your cats and dogs really do appreciate a nice paint job on the bottom of tractors. |

I learned that you can never have enough light when you paint. I will use several "clamp lights" to illuminate the work when I paint the next one. Bob@allisdowneast ------------- I used to think I was indecisive, but now I'm not sure. |

The best way to do it is get a 3m pps adapter for your gun and use the pps system. It's got a cup with a collapsible plastic liner. You fill it with paint, put it on the gun, turn the gun upside down and spray until it sucks all the air out of the liner and then your gravity gun will spray in any position. The cup liners are disposable so there's a cost there but I've found it's pretty much break even at the price of solvent for cleanup anymore. With the pps I might use 1/4 to 1/2 pint of solvent to clean the gun. ------------- 1941 AC B 1948 AC C 1951 AC CA 1954 AC WD45 |

| My brother used his backhoe to pickup my d15 when he painted it so he had access to the underside standing it up vertically. The backhoe was a ford 555 so the over spray of po2 made it look better... if nothing else it is an excuse to buy a backhoe and I am sure we all need one of them.... |
