So I picked up this 190D at auction in March, she is a 1965. Did fluids, filters, lights and front tires and rims. Pretty happy with it, paid $2250 and put another $750 into it. Put about 100 hours on it, doesn't jump out of any gears, life is good. baled the last of my 54 acres of hay yesterday and on the next to the last trip around the field pulling the square baler and a flat wagon I heard a pop and she leaned to the left a little. So, need to build a shoe and bolt it on somehow to get it across the field and down a 1/4 mile path through the woods then on a ramp truck to get it home. The axle replacement in the manual seems straight forward. This is I assume the soft axles, are there anything different in the hardened vs soft axle parts, or just swap axles? Since one broke, I would like to swap both to hardened. Are there any out there? from my untrained eye it appears it broke inside the bearing and has been cracked for a while. any words of wisdom, or should she be parted out? ------------- 310, 2 B's, C, 2 WC's, 2 WD's, WD-45,D-14, D-17 gas, D-17 d IV, 190 |

I watched a guy block up back of tractor and chain blocks to front axle, hold the brake and skid it into his shop, probably not feasable for that long a distance though. ------------- 1945 C, 1949 WF and WD, 1981 185, 1982 8030, unknown D14(nonrunner) |

Not much to say except go to a salvage company and find another one. It looks as thought it didn't break instantly. |

Is this an A series rear end? First 190's had the small axle that broke and then they came out with a replacement that was a harden small axle because the A series would not accept the big axle. But the B series rearends that did come with the small axles could be replaced with the big axle and the C series came with the big axles. | get someone with a larger tractor ' lift the back up with the 3 point' just tow it home an back it in the shop. did that lots of times. also tied up the steering wheel with a strap or whatever you have' works good. |

I don't think tying the steering wheel on a tractor with hydrostatic power steering will work. I really really really doubt that axle has been welded either. I don't think it would have made 100 hours if it had but who knows. Can you get the ramp truck to the tractor? Life would be a whole lot easier if you could. I know there are many out there. I frankly haven't heard of that many breaking, but I have seen many near complete rear housings with axles still attached, shouldn't be too hard to find the whole works somewhat inexpensively. | if you can lift it an tow it' it runes ' the motor works let it run an someone can hold the wheel. be a lot nicer getting it to the shop then load it on something would be a pain in the back side. |

| I don't think it's been welded, looks like a typical 4000 series steel axle that failed to me, harder on the outside with a tough core, once again common with oil quenched 4000 series steel. |

You don't hear of them failing very often. It may have been abused at one point, you'd never know. Just find a replacement at a tractor salvage place. While you're at it, inspect the other axle. |

every shaft I have seen brake looks like "it has been broke for a while" per parts books all below 9000 sn 1966- has small axles, it either has to have large axle rear end swap or replace with small axle. Larger axle will have to have wheel center chocks as well, if replaced. I would find a small axle. Rare to break under non tillage conditions as in 5 bottom pick up plows or chisel plows.. etc...
