After doing some field mowing I noticed oil coming from the pto. I looked at the parts diagram on AGCO parts book and believe I know what parts I need. How difficult is it to remove the shaft to get to the oil seal? I am only a semi competent mechanic and am just trying to decide whether to do this myself or not.

Also, I can't seem to keep the bolts that hold the reversible shaft in tight. Should I add lock washers? Thanks for any input.

Remove bottom plate (after draining oil), remove pin and nut on inner shaft, with sledgehammer, remove shaft. Remove bolts around outer shaft flange, pry assembly  out, remove snap ring, and press it apart.
If the bolts are coming loose, I would check PTO on implement for binding on telescoping, make sure Drawbar is correct length for PTO.
Clean threads and use grade 8 bolts.        MACK

Those bolts do NOT come loose if they are Gr8 and have the dirt cleaned out of the holes with a thread tap and torqued properly. Get them clean and tight and no lock washers. Like Mack said....drawbar set long for 1000 RPM and a free sliding PTO shaft on the implement.
