I own a 1969 190xt III diesel fixen to split it and replace rear main seal. its my main work horse been in my family since new. I have a old guy down the road been trying to sell me his 1966 190 xt gas for a long time. Hes finally come down to a reasonable price. it has 3413 hrs on the meter not to rough pretty straight metal. No idea when the last time it ran been yrs since used tires are shot. aftermarket cab. Here's my question how much of the gas tractor ( mechanical ) can I use to keep my 190 going for the next 47 years ?

Don't know the answer to your question but I would guess that most of the parts on the 1966 gas will he inferior to the 1969 diesel.
You might already know this but he sure to use guide studs to put the flywheel back on after you install the new seal.

Heck, put tires on the gasser and use it for winter time use, chores and such. With those hours, it should be good for a long time yet.

If it has the 2-3/4 axles the tranny and rear end will be different internally; everything cept the engine should work

Radiator same? same in the front end as afar as steering, axles like to swap out the wide front ends. mine has a lot of play.

DougG your saying I need to measure the O.D. of the axles on both tractors?

I can say that the older 190's with the smaller axles (2 3/4") only had the two pinion rear end from the factory, like the D19 had. Been there and done that...what a nightmare! Later on they seen they had a problem with the rear ends shelling, at least on the diesels, so they started replacing them with the four pinion rear ends. The larger axle 190's should all have the heavier four pinion rear ends in them.
This came from an old AC guy. Rick

My 190xt is in two pieces ( id insert the little face with tears here if I could get it to work). Anyway Lots more questions. where can I get guide studs ? I was going to just buy a couple bolts and cut the heads off but there's a lot of difference in the diameter of the hole and the shoulder of the bolt. also where's the best place to get clutch disc? valve cover gasket ? going to replace the throw out bearing also and finally how much trouble and money is it to fix the jumping out of 7/8 gear while I've got this thing split ?
hadn't got a chance to go measure the axles on the gasser yet. thanks guys

To fix the 7/8 gear jumping correctly you have to tare the rear end completely apart just to replace the shift collar for that gear. You could possibly get by just replacing the input shaft which is your road gear and a simpler piece to replace but I wouldn't do one without the other. As far as the 4 pinion differential that came out with the series 3. They had 3 different axle shafts. 1st had 2 3/4 inch shafts, same as the D19; 2nd were hardened 2 3/4 inch shafts; 3rd and last were 3 1/4 inch shafts.

To fix the gear jumping in the transmission, expect to pay at LEAST $1000 for parts alone if you are doing it yourself. I've had 3 tractors that needed a transmission rebuild due to gear jumping. I bought 2 knowing/suspecting they jumped (bought cheap enough though) and the family 175 had to get its tranny rebuilt in the late 80s due to a reckless uncle. My 59 D14 is still in many little pieces at my mechanic's shop (has been for over 3 years) - hope to get it back sometime in the next decade (my sarcastic rant) ...
You will probably need an input shaft, gears, shift collars, and bearings for sure. Those are what my 190XT needed. Shift fork might also be worn out. While you are at it, fix the wear in the linkage outside of the transmission, that doesn't help things either.

Eh she don't hit the highway to much I'll probably not worry about the gear jump. Anybody got any help with the guide studs?

Went back and looked the gasser over a little closer. It has 3ΒΌ axles. It has a Allen cab. The tires are shot. Can't see any water down in the Rad but I turned the pitcok and some antifreeze ran out didn't see any cracks in the block. You can spin the steering wheel like a top no resistance. I am assuming no fluid is the cause and the exhaust manifold it cracked. What do you guys think the value is of this ?
