The wheel bearing went out a couple years ago and we peened the spindle and put new bearings in. It failed again and I now have a new spindle and hub but I can't get the old spindle out. I tried heating the pipe with slide hammer and pipe wrench but it won't budge. I'm thinking about cutting the pipe lengthwise and then re welding. Anyone got any other ideas. Thanks.

We worked with one for 4 hours one day, trying to get it out. I finally had enough and did as you said, split it and welded it back. It worked out fine, and still holding. And took a lot less time and aggravation. LOL

same on my AC disk, took the bolt out, and used panther pi$$ for weeks, and still can't pound it out. it's ona transport wheel so I can't take it to a welding shop to have them split and re-weld it.

Thanks for the responses. I guess that will be the route I take. KY did you split the pipe with a torch or grinding wheel. Dad said to use a grinding wheel so I have a better surface to weld back but I thought the heat from the torch might be better. Thanks.

We've had to cut the pipe and weld it back on some tillage equipment at work before in order to replace a ruined spindle. I always used a cutting disc on the angle grinder. Also cut it so the bolt holding the spindle in would help draw it together. I would also recommend tacking it with the spindle out but when you weld it you better stick that spindle in as the weld seems to draw the tube tighter.
