| Are there any tricks to adjusting up the steering box on an Allis C? There is still lots of set screw left on the right hand side of the box, but it doesn't want to turn in. I see that there is a slotted stud on the left hand side of the box that looks like it changes the pitch of the crank gear??? Thanks. |

If you have 2 adjustments, You have a GEMMER steering box. It would be best to have a service manual and follow those instructions. It's not just a simple deal of turning the one screw like a ROSS. They have to be in sinc with each other on the GEMMER.

So on the Ross type with 1 adjuster, simply turn it to reduce freeplay? Clockwise I am guessing?

| If you have a slotted screw on the left sid elf the box it's a gemmer box and there is no pin inside. Two of the nuts on the left side are eccentric sleeves in addatuion to the slotted pin. Download the service manual you'll need it. If when you adjust it up it gets real tight off center you'll need to disassemble and weld up the comb gear. It only has three teeth and it's not to bad. Just weld the center one up and angle grind it to what loo match the end teeth. |

| I worked on one for a guy one time.It had the comb gear and was wore in center.Used four and half inch side grinder and ground teeth on each end so it would not bind right or left and not loose in center.Guy was happy said he could not keep it in road in high gear before. |

That would be the Gemmer that Kevin has. I have pictures of the gemmer some where but couldn't find them tonight for some reason. an old age thing I suppose. |
