A while back some of had issues with 8070 running hot. What did you find was the problem? Mine is running pretty close to the red when it gets to be 80 degrees out. I put a new sending unit on it this winter, now it shows it running a little warmer than before. Also i am doing a search trying to find some of the posts. Thanks Randy

Pull the radiator and very throughly clean it. Blowing it out in frame isn't enough. That did wonders for my 8030.

While you have it out, take it to radiator shop and get it prodded out. MACK

I had an 8050 that I fought for 3 years trying to remedy an overheating problem. As stated above, start with the foam placement, rod the radiator. If you have a digital temperature scanner, check the difference between the top and bottom radiator, that will tell you if your radiator is actually exchanging the heat. I also replaced water pump(had a foreign object in it), replaced thermostats, removed oil cooler and cleaned it. Nothing helped. Had the mechanic check injection pump timing, it was sporadic. Took the pump to the rebuilder, he said the advace timing was shot and didn't know how it even ran. Any put a reman pump on and it does just fine now. Leon B

I had the radiator flushed about 4 years ago, probably start there. Foam is in place. InjpumpEd just did the pump, so safe to say its okay, I will check the temp from the top to the bottom, new thermostats last fall. What is the temp when the needle is straight up on the gauge? assuming it is about 200 degrees. It seams to cool off in a minute or so. Thanks for the ideas, will try them all.

.....I guess it's possible it doesn't have the correct radiator. The small horse ones fit the same.

Are the fan belts TIGHT? I think it was Dr. Allis that said once that they have to be tight. That's a big fan and any slippage makes it slow down quite a bit.

I had my radiator rodded out on my 7060 and it helped quite a bit. Made it run 10-15 degrees cooler, but still couldn't use all my power on a 90 degree day when its dynoing 195hp.

I dont know how the 8000s are set up, but a guy I know had a 4255 deere that would run hot. They did everything they could think of even a complete overhaul but it still ran hot. They finaly solved the problem by bolting the fan clutch solid. That fixed it. It turns out the fan clutch was wore and wasnt turning the fan full speed. My 7060 dynos 210hp I have never had a problem with it running hot, 90 plus with the ac on 26ft disk behind it.

Is your gauge good? I had the same problem on my 220. Put on a new gauge and it said it was in the red. Found out if you put on the new style gauge you have to use the new style sending unit to go with it.

I don't know what hot is, but I don't like to see my digital gauge hit 200. When it does I would shift down a gear for a while. I was pulling a Phillips harrow 9mph in hills. Always wanted to put a 7080 radiator in it, but it's no longer used for that now. I assume the 8070 has the same core radiator as a 7080 though.

I have mechanical gauges on my 7000 series. Very seldom do they get over 180 degrees. I consider hot any thing over 210.

I talked to the local radiator shop guy to day, he cleaned and flushed it out 5 years ago. He sugested that i move the oil cooler out of the way, and take out the air cleaner out so it could be blown out and check if i could see through it, before i take it out. I will try that first. I assumed that the new sending unit was a match to the gauge, an Allis part from the dealer. Simple things first. It cools down fast is what made him think a air flow problem.

Talking of hot engines, reminded me of my uncle and his son years ago. both are deceased now... But anyways, they had finished planting all their crops and seen a local farm that was listed for sale. the old man wasn't asking much for it and the deal was struck for the 180 acres and to hurry up and get it planted, they traded in a 4010 on a new 4620 JD, hired a fellow with a D7 to push out the fence rows and cattle lanes and to run through the old pastures with a brush disc. They got started plowing with their 4020 and 4620 and had the other 4020 on the planter. 8 hours into the day with the new 4620, the heat gauge needle flopped over and they called the JD dealer and the man told them he didn't have anything to use to take the place of the new tractor. They called a fellow with a stieger and he came with his big plow and started in and got about 60 acres done and he lost a plunger barrel in his cat engine... So... they put the 4620 back to work and it was so hot that they closed the cab doors and watched the heat radiate off the engine and hated looking at the gauge flopped over and threw their gloves over it. Every three hours they pulled the drain plug and dumped new oil in and went back to work... and they weren't babing it... They figured that by the time they were done, it would probably need a new engine... Think they changed the oil close to 40 times in it because it would be all broke down in 3 hours run... tractor went into the shop, and found a water tube had dropped down inside and didn't allow the water to circulate correctly, they reinstalled the tube and that tractor engine was still going strong without using oil between oil changes when it was sold on the retirement auction 18,000 hours later... musta been broke in right. LOL

I took some time yesterday and removed the shroud and moved the oil cooler out of the way and also took out the air cleaner. The radiator wasnt as clean as i though! After cleaning for a while I talked the radiator man in to checking things out. The bottom 2 or 3 inches was still a little dirty, and i will take it out after spring to get it cleaned. If the temp outside is under 85 i am fine. He explained the F style radiator and fins per inch on it were good for cooling, but need more cleaning than straight through style. Lesson learned, never too old to learn! I have a non contact therometer so i need to use it more to check things out in the future. Thanks for all the help.
