I have a 7060, when the tractor is running you can hear the hydraulic system is under pressure. If I hook up a motor or stroke a cylinder with low load on it the noise will go away. What should I be checking out first?

You need to connect a 3000psi gauge to the TEE on the side of the PTO valve and verify pressures. It should be 300 to 600 psi when doing nothing (stand-by pressure) and 24-2500 psi when you pull on a remote lever, dead heading the hydraulic system. When you let go of the lever, it goes back down to 300 to 600 psi. Trust the gauge, not your ear.

and make sure your lever is in neutral, and not sticking partway in or out.

Had a 7040 doing the same thing. There is a piston in the front section of the hydraulic pump that destrokes the pump. Had a hole wore in. Pump was working all the time. If I remember right, just need to take the head of the pump and its right there. Check www.agcopartsbooks.com for parts breakdown. Rob.

Do you have an idea how to test the destroke piston without disassembly?

I also installed a Guage after starting tractor so 3pt haven't settled. When I restarted tractor it went to 3000 psi roughly without touching and levers. Best I can tell linkage is good and remote levers are in neutral.

Before you go to the trouble of tearing things apart, take an inspection mirror and look at the valve stack under the back of the cab.  Look at the front of the valve stack and make sure all pivot "levers"  are in the vertical position.  It is possible due to wear, or cable misadjustment that a level will appear to be in the right position in the cab, yet be stuck in one position or another.

Also explain a bit further what is going on with the 3 point please.

Levers under cab are all in vertical position. There is nothing wrong with 3pt, I was just referring to the fact I started tractor so the 3pt arms would be at proper height as I haven't started tractor in a week or so.

Disconnect the small steel line at the compensator on the pump and plug the line. Start the engine, and if the pressure is still 3000 psi (which is too high), the problem is in the pump. If the pressure settles down to 350-600 psi, there is a hyd valve sending a signal thru that steel line telling the pump to upstroke.

Finally got the fitting and time to test tonight before the cold hits. I capped the compensator line and the fitting off the compensator. (small line on front top side of pump going into a 90 degree elbow) I had 2800 psi and I wasn't at wide open throttle yet, so based on that it's the pump that's the issue. My next question is where is the beat place to get parts or a reman pump.

It could very well be a piston pump problem, but I would look at the high pressure spool in the compensator valve first. The Agco parts book gives an exploded view of the parts in the compensator. Most salvage yards should have the pieces you need if it's the pump. I have some extra parts also, depending on what you need.

Update, went to use hydraulic one day and all the sudden lost all hydraulic functions, even steering is very poor to almost none existent. Any ideas?

will it still pull it's self and shift from lo to hi?   MACK

Yes it drives and shifts from hi to lo (power director). I was running a hyd motor when it quit, steering is very bad and took a little while before I could steer it. Drove it on the trailer to haul it to my employers shop.

Found the problem. What is out there for piston pumps?

Destoke piston end hammered out and then threw metal in and tore out rotation group. What are the odds it hurt duel pump? uploads/14800/_20160402_075125.JPG" rel="nofollow - _20160402_075125.JPG

Don't recall pump running dry. It wast dry when it shelled out. The end of the piston broke and had metal floating around in the pump body. Rob mentioned this earlier in his reply.
