| Hello,can anyone clarify what colour early allis chalmers B (1938) rear rims should be painted in keeping with original factory specs.I see a lot of photos of restored B's with cream or silver rear rims but the front rims are orange just like the rest of the tractor.I have no idea what colour they should be and hope that someone may be able to give me the answer,thank you for your help. |

I once saw something in print that stated that the B in it's early years the rear rims were black and everything else was orange. Many dealers of the era did a bit of fancy pinstriping on tractors to make a sale and I seen some of these that the families of one owner tractor would swear that the tractor came that way from the factory. All this being said will probably raise as much stink as a dead skunk in the road. ------------- If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere. Real pullers don't have speed limits. For what it's worth and not to stir up a dead skunk. The rear rims on the old B&W photos of our first 38/39B on the farm are not black or orange. They appear to be galvanized steel The picture I am about to post is how Bs looked here. Down under may be something totally different if export Bs were shipped without rims and tires. |

| I know you will probably get several differing opinions, but here is mine. I have read that many people paint the rear rim silver because originally the rim itself was galvanized. If you have the original F&H two piece front rims, I would think they were probably the same way. |

 I have no idea what the SN of this B is. I think it is a 39. IF the SN is B18055 and up to B33501 it would have been a 4 bump rim |

A unretouched Historicaly Accurate photograph of a early B don't lie That is my Grandpa and my uncle Marvin. The two story was my house. But when this picture was taken I was not born yet. Born 5/28/40. When I rode with Dad on this same B while plowing it had a hydraulic lift plow. He would tell me when to lift and lower the plow by pulling or pushing the lever on the seat frame. When I was 8 or 9 Grandpa and Dad traded this early B in on a 48 or 49 B with electric start and lights so he could plow at night. |

| Ken,thank you for posting these great old photos for everyone to see,the fact that you and your relatives feature along with the tractor certainly makes it more enjoyable.Without your advice and that of other forum members it would be very difficult for me to gain the knowledge that you have so freely passed on.Although there are a number of Allis Chalmers tractors still running here there is not the depth of knowledge that you people have gained from living and working with these machines for all of your lives.I would love to come and meet you but unfortunately we are located a little far apart for that but I do look forward to gaining more answers about these wonderful old tractors from this forum,thanks again,Colin. |

First, I agree with Ken. The rear rims on the early B were Galvanized. Ken, Do not repeat Do Not lose that picture of you and your father. It is priceless. I hope you have a special place or frame to hold it. I know i treasure reminders of my father. I always refer to Pop's Price book but what I really like are the handwritten notes that I know he wrote in the book. They mean so much to me. Good Luck! Thank you Bill. I guess you know the Bs are one of my favorite Allis tractors too. I hope to meet you in person one day. I'm planning to attend the 2016 GOTO in Missouri. |
