Im having a hard time getting my clearance closed up to cut beans. This is my second season running this combine. It acts like its stuck. I had a little trouble last year getting it closed up but I finally did. Has anyone run into this before and what else can I do. Beans should be ready this weekend

Had a similar problem with my R52. One of the pins was seized in the mechanism at the top of the concave area. Once I figured that out and freed it up was no problem to adjust it completely closed. Not sure how similar the N5 is to a 52

What it does move you have to crank harder than heck

You can do beans at 1/2" clearance or a little more. Shift it into HIGH gear at 650 RPM minimum and go combine. It will loosen up some as you use it. They do move hard sometimes.

You shouldn't have been over 3/4" for corn anyway. I'll bet the rock door is jammed against the concave from opening it too far. Not there, so it's just a guess.

Once had one that wouldn't move either and broke the adjusting arm where it goes thru the side of the combine. It was a new to me N5 and first time trying to adjust it. ended up missing some parts that moves the concave on the left side of the concave. Might try a prybar in their and see if it moves. My guess is someone worked on mine before we bought it and didn't put all the parts back in there.

7/8 jam nut on the bounce bolts on each end of the rock door. The bounce bolts have a square 1/2 head. Loosen the bolts then set your clearance. Retighten the bolts. Hope this helps. I reset them for corn and for beans. 5/8 - 3/4 for corn at 350 rpm low range and 1/2 for beans at 700 rpm high range.

Last year was my first season running the in 5 and it was hard to adjust then but I did get it set. So do I need to open the rock door to see whats going on?
