I recently bought 5 boxes of 223 target loads made by Remington.
Took one box to the range to compare between 55 and 62 grain bullets in my rifle. I sighted in with some 62 that I already had. When I was done I loaded 3 of the remington 55 grains to see where they hit in comparison. As I collected my brass o noticed 2 of the 3 remingtons had split cases.
I later called the store where I bought it. He said it’s my gun. I said it’s brandnew and of very high quality.
He says it doesn’t matter. Wants me to bring my gun and the ammo. It’s the next town over. 3 times I went there this week after work and he wasn’t there.
I called Remington. Of course they mentioned the recent sale of the ammo plant but might refund me. They wanted the lot number. I gave it to them and the lady explained that ammo was made in 2008. She said she wasn’t sure they would refund for ammo that old.
Yesterday I received a letter from them with a shipping label and instructions.
This morning I looked at the other boxes. 3 have the same lot number and two are a different lot number. I opened all them to inspect.
Of the three with the original lot number each box had a couple with split cases.
The other two had none but were very tarnished. The primers in these look out of round and very China cheapie.

OH Boy,,Thad,,,,I believe I would pursue that "Take Back" deal with Remington first as they KNOW that the brass does not split while sitting in the boxes regardless of age. I doubt the Gun Shop will give you a refund as he will most likely direct you back to Remington. Good Luck!!  How do you get so much free time to do what you really like????LOLLOL

I would send to Remington.... Its possible the ORIGINAL were used, then the empty box filled with CHINA JUNK and then cover glued shut and resold... Remington needs to see the split shells.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Is it possible someone may be using the ammo and then reloading them and selling back to the gun store at a lower price?

Yeah,,I Have to agree with Steve and John's assesments,,,,,,,,,,ALTHO,,,it would be NICE to bust a dishonest person if he did do that! With Remington's Quality Control,,I seriously doubt they sent out those inferior cases,,,,,,
STILL, Thad,,I would go back and tell the guy that you ARE sending them back to Remington as they want to investigate what is going on,,,,,,Clap

Was cold n frosty in the holler this morning. I decided to go see the guy at the gun store. I felt that he needed to know. When I got there I showed him what I had. He had a lady go pull all the Remington 223 off the shelves.
He told me he’d refund my money or I could pick a different ammo. I looked and found different ammo. A little more money. I told him I’d pay the difference. He said let’s call it even and he gave me $10.00 for gas.
Said he’ll be on the phone with Remington Monday morning.

Could be wrong but I believe the guy is on the up and up. I knew his father very well . He started the business after selling his family machine business several years back. He was a very well thought of man. Soon as he saw those he got on the phone to different people.
Also a friend sent me a link to a bulletin about A whole lot of bad Remington UMC ammo.
I have gotten bad Remington brass before. I had to toss a bunch of it.
Rumor has it that the new owners of Remington have turned lose a bunch of dated and seconds. That is strictly rumor.

Yes and recently bought out by Vista. Also Fiochi and Sig both have ammo plants in that area and Wilson Combat opened a plant here in Carroll county.
