Hi all just like to know did allis use the AN 62 engine in anything other than the G tractor.

There was a self propelled combine which used the G engine along with the G drive train. As I recall, not very well, it was a very limited production combine, almost a few prototypes. I believe the Navy had a few for harvesting specific grain seed. I have seen it at a few GOTOs. Bob@allisdowneast

Bob, you just jogged my memory, that combine had 2 engines, 1 powered the combine, the other propelled it. It seems like the other engine was air cooled.

I first saw this machine at the Westminster MD GOTO in 1999 (?). It was brought there by an Allis Collector in Luray, VA. I later visited his collection and saw his machine again. Nan of Old Allis News was there and we discussed the unit. We had both never seen one. Come to find out sometime much later that in fact Allis Chalmers made a few of these 40 combines powered by G engines for a very specialized use. Course the G basic power train supplied the movement power It did not require a lot of power to operate the combine since the 40 All Crop was made to be pulled and powered by a 16 - 20 HP B tractor. If I remember correctly those combines have a DATA plate showing they they were built by or for the ARMY corps of engineers

John’s collection is a 20 minute drive from me. He sold much of his collection several years ago. He had some interesting pieces including one of the above combines. He also had a 4x4 G, which was 2 G’s articulating in the center. Also had the number 1 G off the assembly line. I’m sure he kept those. His collection was well advertised and brought folks from all over the US. I always meant to ask him about the 4x4 G, not sure if that was a one off or something he built. I had hoped to by one of his 720’s that had a loader on it but it went for way more than I could afford.
