Fall Festival The Macoupin County Historical Society, the Macoupin Agricultural Antique Association, and the Illinois Valley Blacksmith Association invite you to our fall festival. Allis-Chalmers is our feature tractor this year. We welcome all makes and models of A-C tractors and equipment including garden tractors. A-C tractors and equipment will be welcome whether restored or still in their "working clothes". The record for number of the feature tractor is 127 and was achieved by the John Deere folks in 2006. Please come help us break that record! We're shooting for 150 A-C tractors. Our grounds feature a Victorian mansion plus working sawmill, sorghum press and cooker, printing press, and blacksmith shop. We have a country church, country store, and a one room schoolhouse. There are 3 large display buildings holding many treasures from years gone by. We have two food buildings with pavilions. Food and drink sales are our primary source of income. Please come hungry and join us for breakfast and lunch. The "red barn" begins serving breakfast at 7 AM and both food buildings serve food well into the afternoon. We normally draw 100+ craft vendors. Our grounds are alcohol free. Admission to the grounds is free. We do charge admission to the mansion and that money is used for upkeep of the house. The mansion is full of all sorts of interesting antiques. We have a tractor parade at 2 PM both days. The Prairie Land Pullers will have garden tractor pulls both days. We own a Rumely steam engine, threshing machine, stationary baler, and a corn sheller. If the weather cooperates we hope to have demonstrations set up. In past years we've invited 5th graders from the elementary school across the street to come over on Friday, the day before the fall festival actually opens. We set up as many displays as we can man and the children always ask lots of questions and seem interested. If you have a working demonstration and would like to come on Friday for the visit by the school children we'll be happy to have you. Volunteers will be welcome and we're always looking for new members! Other brands of tractors are welcome, too. We normally draw 2000-2500 people on a good weekend. If you want your equipment seen, this is a good place to display. A list of local motels and campgrounds can be provided. Contact persons: P.J. Rosentreter, 217-854-4119. Bill and Nancy Lange, 217-854-8500, Veryl Reiher, 217-854-3360, and Dan Hauter, 217-854-9725. P.J. will be keeping a list of tractors coming to the show. If you know you're coming please call P.J. We're shooting for as many different models as necessary. |
