Hello, I am finally getting around to working on the gauge panel on my D17 III. When I got the tractor a few years ago, it was missing the water temp gauge with just the hole in the panel. I decided to pull the panel the other day to fix the light switch, and thought I would also add the water temp gauge. I have been looking at the block trying to find the old sensor or a sealed port where the sensor should go, but to my surprise nothing jumps out to me as the likely location. Is the block where I should be looking or does it mount in a hose some where? I am probably just missing it, but ??? Thanks John B Potomac, IL

| If it's a gas engine the temp. sensor is on top of the head toward the rear and on left side(sitting in seat)right beside the valve cover. It does not screw directly into the head. There is a oblong shape adapter about 3/4" thick that bolts to the head and sensor screws into it. Had to replace the adapter on mine 2 yrs. ago. It was still available from AGCO,but pricey. If it's a diesel,then I don't know. |

Thank you! I just went out and pulled the left side cover, and there was the adapter with sensor on top of the head. Duhuh!! I guess I didn't look hard enough before. Interestingly, the sensor that is installed was electric rather then the tube with bulb style. I think some one told me the original indeed was the tube and bulb. At least I think all the replacement units that I have seen are. Thanks again, John B. Potomac, IL

| I tried to change mine to electric a couple years ago,but never could get it to work. I wanted it electric so if you had to split the tractor for a clutch job,you would not have to drain the cooling system. I was using gauge and sending unit for a 200 tractor,but just could not get it to work no matter how I wired it. Finally put it back to original with new gauge from DJS tractor parts and it works fine. |

I just ordered a replacement gauge assembly from DJS myself. As farmerized as this tractor is, it is hard to say if the electric version worked or not. The tractor does run good though. Thanks again for your help! John B. Potomac, IL

| Bill,I thought the same thing (positive ground) when I was trying to get it to work,but everybody I asked about it said that should not matter. The new gauge(from AGCO)did not have any of the terminals marked on the back of it,so it was trial and error to figure it out. I messed with it for a week and tried every wiring combination you can imagine. I still wonder if the positive ground was the whole problem. |

I just purchased a D17 Series I and the temperature sensor is hanging loose. I, too, was having trouble finding the port to screw it into. If someone can point me to a place where I could purchase the port adapter, I would appreciate it. |

Used one from a tractor salvage yard off all the D17 gas tractors and off the "E" Gleaner combines will work. ------------- 3 WD45's with power steering,G,D15 fork lift,D19, W-Speed Patrol, "A" Gleaner with a 330 corn head,"66" combine,roto-baler, and lots of Snap Coupler implements to make them work for their keep. |
