I'm looking at a used one in very good condition.  Anyone used one? Were they a good baler?  Be honest.  Thanks in advance.

Bought a brand new one back in it's day. Very easy to operate and fairly simple to work on. It would bale just about anything you you could stuff in it. A guy told me once that he thought it would even bale garbage if you wanted to. On the down side it did not make a very tight roll. I unroll 95% of my rolls at feeding and when you unroll them you see just how much hay is in them vs. just sitting them out with a hay ring on them. They were a popular machine in their day,but in my area they have all but dissapeared. If one comes up for sale around here it always sells cheap. My thinking was that chains were not designed to run super tight and last very long, but belts on other brands were. That's just my opinion. If you buy one I wish you the best of luck.

I use an old 850 ,same thing ,  they can be bought cheap and very easy to work on ; they are good balers , and will make a 2000 lb bale if you let it , i usally make them about half to three\ quarters size ; make sure the apron chain is good , thats the biggest headache , but even they are cheap to replace now ; another thing is try to cover the bales , cause they are,nt very tightly rolled and spoil easy ; what kind of tie does it have ? I have alot of trouble with the electric , rigged up a hydraulic tie and works great ; overall just to wrap up hay I,m sticking with these old balers , and CNH  has parts cheap and there are a bunch of used ones around for parts !!
