Well, I finally bought a garden tractor.  I bought a 314H that hasn't run in 20 years.  I got the tractor and a complete EZ Vac system for it for $550.  I know it's a risk buying it without hearing it run and the HST is a concern, but I thought, what the heck.  It appears well maintained and it was all kept inside all this time.  My first problem is that I can't get it to roll.  Doesn't matter where I put the selector.  I hope this isn't a bad sign.  I will be asking for help in the near future.  I'm new to these beasts!

There should be a hydro disengage lever on the back, right side.

If parked with brake on it could be stuck.

Nice looking 314. Yes it should not roll unless the lever that Marv mentioned is released. Then it should freewheel with ease.

Thank you littlemarv!  I flipped the lever and it rolls easily now.  I hope I didn't damage it winching it onto and off my trailer.

Thank you.  I think it's in nice shape for it's age.  Not abused at all.

Very nice find, doubt it will take much to get it running

Worked on the 314.  The intake valve was stuck open.  I hit it with Kroil and worked it gently.  It finally freed up after about 3 hours.  Carb was a mess, cleaned it and got it adjusted.  The fuel pump was clogged.  After all that, I was able to get her fired up.  I think the fuel is still not reaching the cylinders because I have to goose it with ether to start it.  It drives great and mows great too.  Lift works, lights work, cigarette lighter is missing (drat!).  I really like this thing.  I plan on cleaning her up this weekend and getting things sorted.

I mowed a lot of grass with one like that back in the early 70's.  It did a nice job of mowing.  Wished it had power steering but it wasn't too bad.  Hydrostatic was nice.

Got it running well, but it's puking oil out of the valve cover.  I guess I've got major blow by.  Dang.  I was hoping I got a gem, but it's a turd.  Need an engine rebuild.
