Tight as in too short?  Or won't fit in a space?  I can't remember how the belt goes on a C.  The generator bracket and fan pulley may need loosened up a bunch.  I'd get the bottom on first, then fight it in a spot where I can work.

Best way or the easiest way? Probly the easiest way is to take a blunt screwdriver and beat it on the right side then the same on the left side. That's before I said the heck with it I aint gots time to pull the front pedestal back to where it has a wider gap.

One of my C's I pulled the pedestal off and took the angle grinder to make a wide enough space to push the belt thru. I decided the belt being rubber it would out last me even if I drove it in. After it was on I could not see any damage.

However you do it, it's a heckuva lot EASIER than changing the belt on my A-C forklift !!!! Only (!) took 1/2 day..needed a motorcycle lift as well !

I pulled the hood, grill, radiator, and pushed and pulled and got it on.  IT WAS TOO SHORT!  Had to pull it off!! Dang--it was harder to get off than on!  Went back to NAPA and got the right one.  Sheeeesh.  I should have just used a 1/2 inch belt instead of the 5/8ths.

The good thing is with a new belt you will never have to do it again with that C. Of course there is always more C's out there for you to tackle.

When it's too tight, it's the wrong belt....ALWAYS...
That is, if everything is loose when you go to put it on.

Yup, a LOT more C's out there to fix....

How well do those belts hold up? Do they stretch after a little use?
