HD5B is model
serial is 5088

5B means 60" gauge (track width)  as  opposed to 44" on 5A
and 5088 makes is a '49

that's good...now I have something to go off of. the owner told me it was either a 54 or 55 but apparently he was mistaken. either way manuals are ordered and a resurrection is soon to come. just need time from work to have opportunities to make it happen...thank you for your input, it is greatly appreciated

between 1948 and 1955 there were some changes but the basic machine is the same - had a early one as well as my 1955 - a 52 and a 50 -the 5B i had was reallow SRL#.
Many of the changes amount to minor improvements, hyd pumps , pin boss extensions, loader supports on arms , transmission gear / high speed reverse , or other such but basically engine and finals as well as undercarriage stayed the same
