Just filled up tank 90 bucks worth and the tank fell off. Didnt loose any gas. Used ratchet straps to secure it to get it home. My question: Do I need to put the plastic tank guard back on? It seems to me that it only trapped crud which in turn rotted out the tank straps. I suppose its there to protect the tank but I was hoping I could do without it. Thanks for your ideas. Brian S

I run an automotive repair shop and my opinion is it would be fine to leave the plastic off. That is a rather new truck to have rusted the straps already. They must really use alot of salt on the roads in NY. I have ran into this several times on older trucks and have always left the plastic off because it would rust the fuel tank.

We normally leave the shield off usless there is a good reason to leave it on. It is a crud catcher and rusts the tank and straps.

First time I saw that cover on my '06 I thought it should come off. It should at least have a drain hole so you can wash it out. Mine is still on but it might have to go soon. 0949395 |
