Got a thorn in a brand new tire with less than a 100 miles on it. Of course it went in right at the edge of the tread ruining it. Can a feller put a tube in a tire anymore?

I have put tubes in newer tires, but make sure the place that does it really smooths and patches the inside of the tire where the hole is.

Tubes are available for bias ply as well as radial tires. A good tire repair shop should be able to take care of it.

some times they can patch the hole. is this tire on a car or pickup? if so i wouldnt suggest putting a tube in it. we have had alot of problems doing this for customers.

It's on a pick up that sees more pasture time than paved roads. Brand new heavy lugged tire that'll get you out of the mud and snow. I'm going to check but odds are I didn't get road hazard when I bought it. If I didn't I'm going to try a tube.

I would recommend the tire plugs you can get anywhere (even Wal-mart). They are slimy sticky rubber cords and you shove them in the tire and the pressure seals them from the inside. Not a perfect professional fix, but I have run a lot of miles with them in my tires without any real trouble.

On my zero turn the nearby locust trees drive me crazy. Keep licking up thorns

Another option would be to have the hole Vulcanize patched. I had a set of new 37x12.5x15 Goodyear MTRs that were brand new. I got a piece of stainless trim through the sidewall (about a 1" gash). I found a tire repair shop that would patch it if it were an offroad tire only...........Sure it was...... Never had a problem with it in over 5k miles.

I don't know why but running tubes in my old tubeless tires seems to help a lot. Maybe the locust needle gets dull or breaks before it can get the tube.

If you have to work around thorny areas, make some overshoes for your tires. Just get some oversize tires and wire them to the wheels over the existing tires and the thorns will break off before they go through the second set of tires.
