Was the HD-3 with the shuttle transmission a good crawler?

I WOULD THINK IT WOULD BE AS GOOD AS THE HD4 SHUTTLE SHIFT. I HAVE TWO HD4 UNITS ANS I LIKE THE SHUTTLE SHIFT JUST FINE. BASICALLY THE DRIVE TRAIN FROM THE TRANSMISSION BACK ARE THE SAME ON THE HD3 AND HD4. JUST NEED TO DECELORATE WHEN SHIFTING FORWARD TO REVERSE ETC., OR GIVE A HESITATION BEFORE SHIFTING EITHER WAY TO KEEP FROM POSSIBLE DAMAGE IN FINAL DRIVES.

I have an HD-3. The seal at the sprocket shaft has been a problem, however the last seal change was a kit with multiple seals as the original was. The D-175 engine starts and runs well. A little intake heat and the way it goes. Ours has the 3 point, 6 way blade, shuttle clutch  and only has 500 hours on it so it works pretty well. We do not do a lot with it except run it at the Hutchinson and Le Sueur shows. Like any dozer, getting rough with it does not prolong the tractor life. The crawlers tend to get abused unfortunately. We have and HD6E, HD5B and just sold our HD6B. I like them all.
