About 6 months ago I posted some questions about welding the cutting bits on my dozer blade as they were worn. Well, I followed the advice given and im posting some pics to show how they turned out. These pics are after approximately 30 hours of use. Work includes, pushing black dirt, clay, rocks, pushing trees and cutting tree roots, and peeling up limestone to use as base rock. overall I am very happy, and for far less than the $500 price tag for ONE bit. the angled pieces on the end help bring material to the center of the blade when pushing, and an added bonus, it looks mean lol.
I used 5lbs of 7018 rod on each end piece. I had a chunk of cutting bit from a cat wheel loader I used for material. I added about 1 inch on the bottom and the large angled piece on the outside. the cutting edge was not as thick as the original dozer bits so I placed them flush on the back side and welded on front to match thickness. The bits were removed, cleaned, and preheated before welding, the fill material was beveled to get good penetration at the seam. the center bit was turned over. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
