I want kill the grass and weeds in my gravel driveway. The last time I used some stuff I got at the local co-op and it did a great job of killing the vegetation but also ran off into the yard and killed some area's of grass in the yard. I'm trying to get something that has good kill that you don't have to reapply like you would have to with roundup but yet something that won't run off the drive. Any ideas?

Steve - what did you use?  I use a mixture of Pramitol and Roundup on driveways.  I haven't had a runoff issue but the ground has been level where I've applied it.  You need a rain soon after the Pramitol application to take it into the ground.  In my experience it doesn't work well if you apply when it's dry and stays dry for a while afterwards.  Mike

Old gasoline you drain can be spritzed on weeds, pretty effective so I have been told.

I tried the Pramitol but had problems with it killing what I didn't want killed.  I went back to the Roundup based chemical and spray the drive three times a year.  A good thick base of gravel helps also.

We sell Pramitol, hyvar xl and others for driveway control but I warn anyone with a sloped driveway or ditches near that all of them will wash into unwanted areas.  It's just the nature of long lasting chemicals especially on hard surfaces that don't soak up run off.  I once brought a spraytruck home rather than return it to work late at night and left it in the drive way.  I drove it to work the next morning after a hard rain.  Wife didn't like the lawn control i created.  I planted sudan grass in the area as i knew it would grow and mowed it all summer.  By that fall all the chemical had been taken up and i planted lawn grass again.  Would not have worked with Pramitol.

Work the driveway up and add calcium chloride to it as grading or working , it will control the dust as well as weeds . As it will kill off some grass if there is runoff but if worked into graded material it should no be that heavy . Che calcium chloride will absorb moisture from air and set the drive hard also .

I used the OC46 once. It worked good. Just go out and do donuts in the drive for fun.LOL
Might have to grade it back level afterwards though.

I tore the side wall on my 45 and can attest to the fact that calcium chloride kills grass really well!

here's what you do. i have a 4000 sq.ft gravel parking lot at the front of our farm. i use a 3 gallon back pack sprayer, go to rko and buy the 2 1/2 gallon of weedkiller (it's generic roundup) $34.99 or $29.99 on sale. then go bye some liquid pre-emergent. it's not very expensive either. the round up kills the existing weeds and the pre-emergent disrupts the germination process. if done properly you won't see one weed for 8-12 weeks per application. when u see a few weeds starting to pop out repeat. i do my parking lot in spring middle of the summer and in the fall, and no weeds. not to bad for being at the front of one of our fields. just don't spray right before it rains and u won't have any runoff problems. try is guaranteed to work. pete

one winter...a salt/sand truck broke something along side the highway....they had to run a bunch of their load out to fix it. leaving a quite large pile along side the roadway. it stayed there for over a month...so i went out and scooped it up and poured it in my driveway. my driveway stayed clear all winter long as the salt kept the snow/ice melted all winter, and nothing grew in the driveway all year, and for several years afterwards. just plain old cheap rock salt. nothing still don't grow where that pile was along side the road.

Calcium chloride is the best. I had a tire let go on the CA and ran it up next to the garage so I could work on it. The spot where the left-over fluid drained out didn't grow anything for several years. If you have a gravel drive and spray it with Cal Chl it won't be dusty  or grow unwanted vegetation.
