Is there a schedule posted somewhere? Wondering if there was a slow race and when? Also is there a charge to bring in a tractor to show? Definitely going, just don't know about bringing a tractor, would be a first for me.

Here's their web site. Some where it tells that to display a tractor you have to join their club so you will be covered by their insurance. But that includes the daily entry fee. Dusty

I think you're correct, Dusty. Unless I'm misreading something, fron the Buckeye Website it looks like you first have to join the Buckeye Allis Club for $20 ($25 if you're Canadian) It further states that, MUST belong to Miami Valley Steam Threshers Association to exhibit which includes admission Then in the Miami Valley Steam Threshers Association website and contract, it indicates it costs a minimum of $90 for a 25' x 25' space to "...set up and display items for this year's show." It looks like the minimum spend for anyone taking a tractor is $110 total to both groups, ($20 to Buckeye and $90 to Miami Valley) Again, that's assuming if I'm understanding the website, rules, and contract correctly. When you factor in the cost of hauling your tractor to the show, that seems pretty costly.

You only have to belong to the local club. Being miami valley steam threshers for around $20-$25, the $90 is for a vendors booth.

Thanks for the update, Dale. I gotta tell you, at a minimum both websites and the Miami Steam Threshers contract are ambiguous and confusing.

I am somewhat concerned that club are asking the exhibiters to pay to bring there tractors and implements. With out these exhibiters there wouldn't be a show, I hope someone rethinks this policy. I plan on attending the show, however I don't feel good about hauling a tractor 800 miles and paying to show it. JMHO

Darrell, this has been there club policy for years, main reason being insurance. This is a common rule in our area. Once again the only club you have to join is the Miami valley steam threshers for $15, not buckeye allis club. Membership includes 2 weekend passes as well. Hope this clears everything up

While I agree that taking a tractor to a show should not require a PHD to figure it all out most of the concerns here are unfounded. Plain City is a very relaxed and enjoyable place to attend and show.As Dale said it is common practice in this part of the world that IF anyone is charged to get in everyone is including the exhibitors. They can call it joining the club, insurance fee or hostage money it realy makes no differance as the bottom line is if you want inside the fence you have to hand over some FRNs which in my world is called price of admission. I do understand "what!!?? I am the show why do I pay??!! as this was my attitude first time I had to do it but the big picture is that at most tractor shows if a person had a way to make all the exhibitors and their families invisable there would be a damn slim crowd left,, and somebody has to pay the bills. Off my box,,,, For now |

This show grounds is in a city park so there will be no real field demonstrations. They do have a saw mill and i believe they also thresh but that is the extent of demonstrations.

I think the point is that if it costs entry money to bring a tractor, what's the incentive to bring one? I have no problem paying the cost to enter the show, and spend the day, whatever the entry fee. But I'd be hard pressed to to spend extra time and money to contribute to the show if there's no recognition of my effort.

I'll gladly pay the motel cost and the $3 entry fee, But paying extra for the privilege of bringing a tractor? Probably not. That's a lot like going to an auction and paying a buyer's fee. I don't do that either. I have, however, been known to drop a few bucks on french fries if they're good! LOL

Here is another way to look at it, for the $15 membership to belong to the local club you get 2 weekend passes. Gate fee is $5 per day for a 4 day show making this membership worth $40 in gate admission. Basically what Im saying is that if you where planning on being there for at least 3 days of the show or bringing a second person with you for 2 days of the show you are at worst even money wise. I do understand that the local club does not have the easiest website to navigate or understand and we have let them know. But with most shows all involved are volunteers and do the best that they can.
With all of this being said it is a very nice show grounds close to several decent size towns and citys with accomodations. I hope to meet several of you there.

Plain City is a great show grounds, been going on for 60+ years. There are things going on all the time. I have been hearing a rumor that there might be an all Allis pull on Thursday night. The parade is great. The townspeople really come out for it.
Come and enjoy the show!(I think I heard that at a Cavs game!)

As a board member for our local club I can tell you some of this has to do with insurance. Some clubs make you become a member, and hence forth pay the membership dues, to exhibit a tractor. Call it a tough pill to swallow, but in some areas of the country its the only way the insurance companies will cover the club. The insurance companies look at it like " if they are a member and get hurt at a club function they wont sue the club because they knew what they were signing up for." Thats the sue happy world we live in......
