Will the LH final drive axle work on the RH side to remove and bypss the hand clutch?

Short answer is no. You can take the shaft out of a LH axle and put in the RH side.

You can't just move the housing. the final drive is tilted to the rear. If you put a left on the right it will have 2 different wheelbase depending on the side of the tractor you are looking at. Go look at yours and it gets pretty obvious

yes.. the AXLE will work.. you cant use the HOUSING.

thank you Steve! That is GREAT news. I just want the tractor useable for now. I realize the axle housing is asymmetric, but thought maybe the longer straight axle would work.

The axle shaft is the same. It's the pinion shaft in the final drive you want to change.

looking back at several old threads, I have still not found definitive answer…..is there a locknut on the RH brake drum? If so. i can not see it turning the pinion shaft and looking with a flashlight. Where is it? The service manual is next to useless in my opinion.

I doubt it. Wd's -D17's were press fit. I don't know much about a CA

YES... the brake drum presses onto the shaft and has a key way .. setscrew on the brake hub access thru the round hole on bottom of case..

Does anyone have a pic of the RH drum showing the location of the locking setscrew? I cant find it with a flashlight. To the best of my ability, there is NO setscrew visible and accessible thru the bottom casting hole. Thank you!

Below is a picture of the B-C final drive and set screw on the brake hub... I ASSUMED the CA was the same, but the book does not mention a set screw and has no photo.. The removal is basically the same as the LARGER tractors... just "use a puller" according to the book.... press fit.

I had a CA opened up recently for hand clutch repair and don't recall a set screw for the brake hub.

Why would you want to remove the axle clutch on a CA, unless you are making a dedicated puller? That is what makes the CA such a great little tractor. If the axle clutch is in proper working order, it will transmit more power that the engine clutch will.
There is no locking set screw on the right brake drum that is part of the axle clutch, however there is a set screw in the Left brake drum. The left brake drum is the same part that is used in B & C Tractors.
