Well, over 2 years after I got the rear support braces from Dale Haymaker, I finally got around to installing the snap coupler kit to my B. The big holdup was finally finding a late model B and I just got it late last year.
Here are the various parts to convert a B to snap coupler

Michael, looks good and looks like it was made to fit.
Dad bought the parts to put one on the "C" we had at the time and was used to pull the two row SC planter he had purchased new.

Neat! Are you going to give a 2-bottom SC plow a try?

So...how do you hitch something up to the tractor? Or couldn't you do that with the Snap Coupler system installed on the B?

Michael, You are very fortunate to have a RARE ADDITION TO THE B. Snap couplers were made but to my knowledge not that many of them exist. I know we did not sell or procure one. I am not certain the year of development and sale. I only know it was a late item for the B I think in an effort to modernize the unit. I was in the Army when it came out and from my information was not a successful addition simply because I feel you had to build a whole tractor around the snap coupler system with traction booster and hydraulics not adapt it to an existing model.
In any event having the COMPLETE B SNAP COUPLER to me is a most rare item. Please let us know what implements you get for it and how it goes. I would be most interested. Good Luck! Bill Long |

I'm curious too. Was there a drawbar and how did it mount ?

There was no drawbar for use in conjunction with the B. If you wanted to do drawbar work, you took off the snap coupler stuff and switched the drawbar backwards. The parts book does not show any drawbar like what you have with a WD or later tractors. I plan to take an existing snap coupler drawbar and make it so I can use a drawbar with the snap coupler set in place as you see it in the pictures.
I think since it was so late in the B production, they just did not go to the effort as there is nothing really to attach a drawbar to when the snap coupler is in place.

From information I have gotten over the years there never was a B sold from the factory with the snap coupler on it. AC was making the CA with snap coupler on it and was making smaller implements for it and was still making the model B with the same engine so they decided to make the parts to make a B with snap couple to be dealer or field installed.

I bought a snap coupler B a couple of years ago and had all of the parts except a homemade looking draw bar. So I guess if they didnt make one the previus owner did.My be is a very late 1956.

Looks good Michael.
Should I ever find all the components to add a SC kit to my '56 B, I was thinking of trying Norm's idea for a drawbar (rather than converting back to regular use). Find a CA SC drawbar (just the drawbar; not the entire assy) and use the early CA drawbar mounting hardware. http://www.brianahart.net/snapcouplerb.htm |

Brad Hopwood, I think that is his last name, from up by Traverse city Mich. Has a totally restored snap coupler B, looks perfect in every way. Haven't saw a post from him in a long time, anyway his is the best one I have ever seen.
